The Edge: Let's wait a while

U2 have, as you'll have heard, shoved the album planned for this year back to the other side of Christmas.

Why?

The Edge explains:

"We're still writing and we're trying to take it to the next level," said The Edge. "Its taking a while, but I'm told there's no short cut to greatness!"

By spending a little longer writing the album, it means U2 can be certain their record will be a 2009 album, which is a whole level higher than being a 2008 album.

I was going to make a comment about them leaving it until the release fell in a more convenient tax year, before remembering that doesn't really matter to U2 :(

It's not as if the postponement wouldn't have anything to do with all the other high-selling artists

Oasis, Kaiser Chiefs, Killers,Razorlight,Snow Patrol, Keane,Dido,Sugababes,AC/DC, Metallica,Fall Out Boy,Kanye West,The Streets,Kings Of Leon and maybe Britney Spears, to name a few.)
releasing albums, that might mean that U2 wouldn't sell as much as they could if they put the album off til 09.

Oh wait...
