Albarn: celebrity culture is bad

Damon Albarn has launched a stinging attack on celebrity culture:

The current celebrity culture "sends out all the wrong messages", he said.

"I think it's creating a mindset that suggests you can get something for nothing and that it's easy to acquire status and fame."

The power of his message might only be slightly weakened by his platform, which was an edition of Today which he had been invited to edit due to, erm, his celebrity status.

He also wants rid of "99% of the media." That's probably all of the BBC except Today.

Oh come on, Simon! You know exactly what he's speaking of, the 'Big Brother' style of celebrity where people become 'something' from nothing overnight - celebrities by virtue of being 'celebrities'.

Albarn on the other hand, earnt his celebrity status over a number of years, mainly though his creative endeavours in music.

Are you really getting so deseperate for your sarcasm to appear as wit that you've sunk to such purposeful ignorance as this?

Actually, I don't know why I'm asking that question. It seems your actions have already clearly answered it.

Anon, are you really getting so desperate for your straw-manning to appear as a coherent argument that you've sunk to such purposeful ignorance as claiming that "might only be slightly weakened by his platform [emphasis mine]" equals "completely and utterly negated"?

Or were you just so eager to defend Albarn that you made a mistake in interpreting context? Just curious.
